INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - As has become a yearly tradition, a team from Dreyer & Reinbold Subaru and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) recently gathered at the Franciscan Health Cancer Center Indianapolis to make a generous donation of 100 blankets.

Patients at the cancer center will receive the blankets, which they can use during treatments and take home with them.

The Dreyer & Reinbold team, based in Greenwood, Ind., also brought 50 art and craft activity kits for the children whose parents are undergoing bone marrow and stem cell transplants.

“We look forward to this day every year,” said Michelle Nees, program coordinator for Indiana Blood & Marrow Transplantation (IBMT) at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. “It is a blessing to our patients and they always enjoy receiving a blanket to use while undergoing their treatments. We are very grateful to Dreyer & Reinbold and Subaru for their continued support and all they do for the community.”

The donations are part of the “Loves to Care” program, a health-focused initiative of Subaru’s national philanthropic platform.

“This is an event we love to do every year,” said Andy Thimlar, sales manager at Dreyer & Reinbold Subaru. “We know it brings some calmness and joy to people in need. We are part of several events throughout the year and being able to give back to the community in these types of ways is what we enjoy doing. We want to be more than just a business. We want to be able to help the community out.”

The blankets will be presented to patients undergoing treatment at the IBMT unit. The program is one of just three facilities – and the first – in Indiana offering full-service transplant care, including bone marrow and stem cell transplants. The unit specializes in treating leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple myeloma and other blood disorders. The IBMT program also recently began transplants that use stem cells recovered from the spine of deceased donors.

Franciscan Health Cancer Center Indianapolis is located at 8111 South Emerson Avenue, Suite 101 in Indianapolis.
