About This Treatment
Arthroscopic hip surgery, or hip arthroscopy, is a minimally invasive procedure that can diagnose or treat problems with the hip joint or the surrounding tissues.
During the procedure, your orthopedic surgeon will insert an arthroscope through a small incision. An arthroscope is a small tube with lenses, a video camera and a light that allows the surgeon to see inside the hip joint. Once your surgeon determines the cause of your hip pain, they will use specialized instruments to repair torn tissue or smooth bone spurs.
Minimally invasive hip surgery offers a variety of benefits over traditional hip surgery, including:
- Less scarring
- Quicker recovery
- Reduced postoperative pain
- Smaller incision
Hip arthroscopy is an outpatient procedure that allows you to have surgery and go home the same day. Most patients use crutches or a walker for the first few weeks after surgery. We may recommend physical therapy or rehabilitation to help you regain strength and mobility.
